Good questions

How much smaller will my PDF get?

Scanned and photo-heavy PDFs often shrink by 70 to 90 percent on Balanced. Text-only files are usually small already, so savings there are modest.

Will the text still be selectable?

With Lossless, yes. Balanced and Smallest turn each page into an image, so text can no longer be selected or searched.

What if the compressed file is bigger?

The tool tells you, and Download gives you the original file instead, so you never end up with a worse version.

Are my files uploaded?

No. The tool runs entirely in your browser, so your file is processed on your own device and never sent to a server. Nothing is stored after you close the tab.

Honest numbers

Compression is a trade. Instead of a vague quality slider, each option says what you give up: Lossless keeps text selectable, the other two turn pages into images.

The result shows before and after as bars, not just a percentage. If a level can’t beat the original, the tool says so and hands you the original file rather than a bigger one.

Lossless uses qpdf in a worker. The image levels render each page with pdf.js and rebuild the file with pdf-lib, all on your device.
